The National Universities Commission (NUC) has ordered the closure of universities across the country, to enable students participate in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.
NUC passed the information through a letter addressed to vice-chancellors of all Nigerian universities and directors of inter-university centers.
NUC noted that the order was based on the directive of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.
The 2023 General elections have been scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 25, and March 11.
The shutdown of universities is to enable students travel to their various homes to ensure voter turn out is as high as possible.
Voting in Nigeria is based on registered polling units and wards, so voters need to be physically present in their places of registration to cast their votes.
