President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the suspension from office of Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), of Adamawa State. The suspension is to remain active till investigations are completed by the Inspector General of Police.

Yunusa’s suspension was announced in a press release issued by Willie Bassey, Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

President Buhari directed that the REC should be prosecuted if he was indicted by the investigations.

Recall that the Adamawa REC, made headlines on Sunday, April 16 when he unilaterally announced APC’s governorship candidate in the state supplementary election, Aishatu Binani, winner of the election without results to back up her victory.

The declaration was rejected by the opposition parties led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who argued that their candidate and incumbent Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, was the winner of the election.

Fintiri was eventually declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
