Cameroon Suspends Russian Ride Hailing App, Yango

The Cameroonian Ministry of Transportation has suspended Yango, the Russian ride hailing app owned by search engine operators, Yandex.

The app was suspended for failure to comply with transport regulations which included failure to obtain a license from the Cameroon telecoms regulator, registration with tax department and having a local bank account.

The country’s transport minister, Ernest Massena, issued the statement about the suspension of Yango until they comply with the regulations.

Reports indicate Yango had been asked in September to open a country office in Cameroon, pay taxes and publish its terms of use to clients in the country.

The app had also faced critisims from taxi drivers union who threatened to go on strike if Yango was allowed to operate in the country.
