The Church of England, one of the world’s oldest Christian institution has announced it will look into the use of gender neutral terms to refer to God during prayers. According to the church and some Christian bodies, God is neither male nor female.

The old church said one of its reasons is the issue of growing global awareness, about the assumed usage of pronouns being offensive to those who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth.

The Church of England on Wednesday, February 8, revealed there are no plans to abolish current services but that it will look into gender neutrality for God.

To this effect, proposals has been set out last month, showing it would refuse to allow same-sex couples to get married in its churches, but said priests could bless them in church. It further apologised to the LGBTQI community for the rejection and hostility they have faced.
