More than 500 persons have been confirmed killed in an earthquake that hit Turkey and the northwest of Syria on Monday morning.
Reuters is reporting that buildings have collapsed and many are still trapped in the rubble.
The earthquake was so strong that it was felt as far away as Lebanon and Cyprus.
Turkish authorities are reportedly scrambling for rescue teams and supply aircraft for the affected persons while also calling for international assistance.
Syria is even in a worse shape as it is already ravaged by a lingering civil war and fighting. More than 237 people were reported killed with numerous injuries in Hama, Aleppo and Latakia provinces.
