Premier League side, Fulham who have been hovering on Nigeria and Ajax defender, Calvin Bassey, have finally closed the deal for £18.2m.
Bassey, 23, has signed an initial 4-year deal with option for a 12 months extension with the side from Craven Cottage. Fulham had initially placed an opening £15m deal for the Nigerian which was rejected by the Dutch side
This signing would make signal the intentions of the club to maintain and improve their very impressive showing last season in the English Premier League.
Bassey has expressed his delight at signing the deal and sealing the move from Amsterdam to London. He expressed his happiness to be playing in the best league in the world with a big club like Fulham.
Bassey started his career in the Academy ranks of Leicester City before moving to Rangers. His impressive run with the Scottish side especially in the Europa League secured his record £20m move to former European Champions, Ajax.
However, Bassey has had a difficult time with Ajax and has been played out of position as a center back when his natural position is the left back position. He had been criticized for some mistakes at Ajax but then the entire Ajax team was having a difficult spell the entire season.
Bassey would be linking up with another Nigerian defender, Tosin Adarabioyo in the defense line up for Fulham.
Unlike Tosin who is yet to get a full cap for Nigeria, Calvin Bassey is a full Nigerian International with 10 caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
