INEC Boss, Mahmood Yakubu Was Nominated By Tinubu’s Camp – Rotimi Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi 1

Former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi has come down hard on the obvious failures and complicity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the General Elections in Nigeria.

Amaechi revealed that Mahmood Yakubu was nominated to be INEC Chairman by the Bola Tinubu camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also revealed that Mahmood Yakubu worked under Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, when Wike was Minister of State for Education.

Amaechi made this statements today while lamenting the total breakdown of law and order in the electoral process at his home town Ubima, Rivers State.

Amaechi described both the Presidential and Gubernatorial elections as “no elections” and associated with wide voter apathy, while also revelaing that he had complained to everyone he could about the anomalies.

He also described the call by Nyesom Wike for the arrest of 27 persons as unlawful since he had no right to order the arrest of anybody.

The Presidential elections have been called a sham and protested by the opposition parties who have called for the resignation of INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu.

Now, the problems have piled on with another apparent sham elections today in the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

Television images have been beaming images of voter suppression in Lagos and various other states. Voters in the elite estate, Victoria Garden City (VGC) in Lagos, were apparently disenfranchised with INEC officials abandoning the polling unit in the estate and asking the estate residents to come outside to the express road to cast their votes. This was resisted by the residents who insisted doing so would expose the residents to attacks from thugs around the Ajah axis.

In the Okota axis of Lagos, crowds were seen preventing a police van from carrying INEC officials away from the polling unit as they insisted no voting had taken place.

The widespread incidents and voter apathy, will definitely raise legitimacy questions about any results declared in today’s nationwide elections.
