Arsenal kept the heat on Manchester City in the race for the Premier League Title with a 0-2 win over Newcastle United at Tyneside on Sunday.
A first half strike from Martin Odegaard and a second half own goal from Newcastle’s Fabian Schar settled the scores 0-2 in favor of Arsenal.
Eddie Howe’s team had started the game on a very high note hitting the wood work within 90 seconds and almost getting a penalty early on. Arsenal were put under serious pressure but successfully countered and in the 14th minute, the Norwegian midfielder, Martin Odegaard hit a low sizzler from outside the box which beat the Newcastle goalkeeper to rest in the net.
Newcastle responded with a barrage of attacks and hit the Arsenal wood work, three times in an attempt to even the scoreline. The Arsenal midfield marshalled by former Chelsea man, Jorginho, put in a very good work to break the attacks from Newcastle.
Newcastle were clearly unfortunate to concede again in the 71st minute via an own goal which came off a corner line cross from Gabriel Martinelli. Fabian Schar was the unfortunate man for Newcastle as his trailing foot pushed the ball beyond Nick Pope in the Newcastle goal.
Final scores: Newcastle United 0-2 Arsenal.
