Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has accused the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) of causing suffering and poverty in the country with the Naira redesign policy, which he referred to as “COVID-23”.
Ganduje spoke on Monday in Kano during the distribution of palliatives at the Kano state government house. He claimed that Kano residents were the most affected by the “unfortunate development”.
He blamed the CBN for introducing this “virus” into the commercial banks, Point of Sale (POS) and ATM machines. He added that the virus had affected almost everything in Nigeria and called for a rejection of any policy that will disturb the well being of Kano people.
The new naira redesign policy has disrupted economic and commercial life in Nigeria. People spend more time at the banks looking for new naira notes to be able to undertake transactions. Curiously, digital channels for cash transfers have been affected and transfers are either reversed or fail completely.
