Mao Ohuabunwa, the former Senator representing Abia North in the 8th Assembly, has come down hard on the ambition of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to be the next Senate President.
Ohuabunwa said Kalu was not competent for the office, was an ex-convict and still has a pending case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ohuabunwa spoke during a ChannelsTv interview on Monday.
The ex Senator not only criticized Orji Kalu but also called on the EFCC to accelerate the prosecution of Kalu, who is also an ex-governor of Abia State.
Ohuabunwa also added that Kalu did not win the last election to the Senate and could be removed by the tribunal at anytime.
He stated in the program:
“He (Kalu) has not won the election so I wouldn’t want a Senate President that will be removed tomorrow. He has so much baggage with him. He still has an EFCC case in court, don’t forget that he was convicted. He wasn’t discharged. I am wondering why the EFCC is still holding back on that prosecution”.
Recall that Kalu declared his ambition to be the next Senate President by using a familiar phrase made popular by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, when he declared to run for the presidency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC). Kalu declared “it is my turn” in making the claim for the office.
