The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been in the news in the last couple of days for the rash of suspensions and expulsions of its members for anti-party activities.
Now the suspensions have come full circle with Sunday’s announcement of the suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu
Ayu was suspended for alleged anti-party activities on Sunday. The suspension was announced by the PDP Igyorov ward chairman in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
However, if the offence is about anti-party activity, then the suspensions and expulsions have not fully run its course. There are still some prominent members who played ignoble roles in the run-up to the just concluded national elections.
Wike “The Untouchable”
Nyesom Wike, the leader of the G-5 Group of Governors who openly defied the party and supported Bola Tinubu of the APC, is now the untouchable. He has seemingly out-maneuvered the National Chairman, Ayu.
Wike even justified the suspension of Ayu when he gave an interview to Channels TV on Sunday. He chided Ayu for losing his unit and Local Government in the last national elections. Wike added that no one will take directives from a politician who could not deliver his ward and was not able to ensure the party was successful at his local government and state level.
The last certainly, has not been heard about this latest round of suspension. There is bound to be a fight back from Iyorchia Ayu and his supporters.
So with the apparent confusion in the PDP, is the Wike camp back fully in charge of the party hierarchy or is a deeper implosion about to occur within the ranks of the PDP?
