The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has to make more clarification on the purported telephone conversation between him and the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo.
The alleged audio made the rounds on social media last week with claims that it was a conversation between Obi and Oyedepo. In the audio recording, the man alleged to be Obi asked the other person alleged to be Oyedepo, to help gather votes from the South West for him and that the 2023 election is a ‘’religious war”.
However, Peter Obi has since come out in Twitter to debunk the viral audio, calling it fake and doctored.
At a press briefing in London on Tuesday, April 11, Mohammed reacting to Obi’s claims, challenged Obi to clarify what he meant when he said the leaked conversation was fake.
“Nigerians have to look into the recent leaked audio conversation between the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and the cleric, David Oyedepo. The leaked audio shocked a lot because we heard Obi pleading with the cleric to convince Christians to support his political ambition while referring to the presidential election as a religious war. When the audio was leaked and went viral afterwards, Obi came out to say that it was a fake, doctored audio call.
Mohammed said Peter Obi needs to clarify whether the conversation did take place or not, but not by claiming it was doctored.
If it was doctored, which part of it was doctored? Is it the beginning, the middle or the end or is it the ‘Yes Daddy’ part of it, or where he said it was a religious war?”
Mohammed said that the leaked phone conversation gives backing to claims that the Peter Obi campaign was “based on religion and ethnicity.”
Lai Mohammed is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), just like Bola Tinubu, who has been declared the winner of the hotly disputed presidential elections in Nigeria.
