Embattled former Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has made the supplementary list of ministerial nominees of the All Progressives Congress led government in Nigeria.
Matawalle who has been having a public row with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over corruption, has surprisingly made the list to be a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Recall that Matawalle had a running battle with the suspended boss of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, who he accused of seeking a $2million bribe from him. The EFCC had accused Matawalle of embezzling Zamfara State Government funds to the tune of N70 billion and promised to prosecute him once he was out of office.
The EFCC had then gone on to raid his home to recover cars and other property belonging to the Zamfara State Government, one of the poorest states in the North of the country.
However, the new administration led by Bola Tinubu suspended and detained the then EFCC boss, Abdulrasheed Matawalle, who has since remained in detention with the Department of State Security (DSS). Suprisongly too, Matawalle’s name has appeared on the ministerial list
This nomination has added a new controversy about the caliber of persons nominated by the administration to become ministers. Earlier in the week there had been some controversies about the educational credentials of some of the nominees. This unfolded as they were undergoing screening at the Nigerian Senate.
