At least three persons are feared dead following a violent protest that broke out on Monday in Benin City, Edo state, over the scarcity of Naira notes.
Hordes of protesters including market women took to the streets, destroying goods and properties. They attempted to break into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) State branch, located along Akpakpava Street, a commercial nerve center in Benin City, where most commercial banks are also located. Afterwards, they attacked some commercial banks located in the area.
A viral video making the rounds on social media shows heavily armed police and military officers repelling the attack on the CBN building.
