Two Chibok girls among schoolgirls abducted nine years ago by Boko Haram terrorists, have escaped from Sambisa forest where they are kept captive.
The girls escaped from Sambisa forest, on Sunday, April 23, 2023, as a result of intense military operations going on in the camp.
A security source revealed that the escapees were identified as Hauwa Mutah and Esther Markus.
It is not clear how many of the original kidnapped girls remain in captivity. Earlier in 2023, the head of the Intelligence Unit of the Joint Military Task Force, Operation Hadinkai, Colonel Obinna Ezuipke, gave the number of the remaining Chibok girls still in captivity as 98.
Recall, that Boko Haram terrorists had on April 14, 2014, abducted 276 girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok. The kidnap gained global notoriety with then United States First Lady, Michelle Obama, taking a public stand with the theme “Bring Back Our Girls”
