Amaechi Angry Because I Did Not Give Him Birthday Gift
Hadiza Bala Usman, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority who was suspended and removed from office by President Buhari, has described the events that led to her ouster from the lucrative office.
Bala Usman was suspended from office following a request for the probe of the NPA’s account by then Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi.
Bala Usman has now revealed that she was targeted by Amaechi because she refused to dispense favours for him. In particular, she mentioned he was angry she did not give him a birthday gift
In her recently released memoirs, Usman made some categorical allegations against Amaechi in which she stated that Amaechi held personal grudges against her because she failed to dispense favors for him. She alleged that the former minister said this to some people who tried to mediate on the matter.
She said Amaechi accused her of writing directly to the President without recourse to the Minister. After her suspension and removal from office, she was replaced by the current Managing Director, Mohammed Koko. In the public service, writing to the President without the knowledge of the supervising minister would be termed “insubordination“.
Hadiza Bala Usman was suspended from office following an allegation and probe of NPA’s non-remittance of about N165bn operating surpluses into the Consolidated Revenue Fund Account of the federation.
Hadiza Bala Usman is currently a close associate of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
