Controversial entertainer and singer, Charles Oputa, popularly known Charly Boy has taken a swipe at Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka for his recent comments on supporters of the Labour Party known as “Obidients”
Soyinka has been in the news lately, owing to comments he made on live TV concerning the just concluded 2023 elections. Soyinka criticized supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi popularly known as ‘Obidients’ and used the word “fascist” to describe them.
In a post shared on his Instagram page, CharlyBoy stated that the respect he had for Soyinka was almost the kind he had for his father, late Justice C.A Oputa, who he referred to as the Socrates of the Supreme Court.
He said it has now dawned on him that Soyinka can never be the man late Nigerian novelist, Chinua Achebe, was.
Charley Boy added that the Nobel laureate who many Nigerians put on a high pedestal has ‘’reduced himself to a boyiboyi for criminal politicians”.
